One More Month!

Went to the Allegheny Observatory last night for my Astronomy class! The class requires that each student attend one session at the Observatory in order to pass, so Daniela and I picked last night to attend. Of course we picked the rainiest, snowiest day to go and weren't able to look through any of the telescopes, but it was definitely an experience.  We went with a random group of people and walked through a two hour tour with our tour guide named Bert! It was definitely cool to see everything and hear some of the stories behind it all, and I was surprised at how many questions I could answer based on my Junior year astronomy class I took. (yes, Junior year in high school...not my current class in college haha). The telescopes were HUGE! And one of the them was actually the telescope used to discover that Saturn's rings are in fact, not solid. Betchya didn't know that!  We also learned about "The Great Lens Napping!"...I suggest you read about it, it was actually pretty interesting, they never even caught the people who stole the lens! And these lens's take years to make. Yes, years! My only complaint? It was absolutely freezing inside, but I was happy to be with a group of people who could make it a pretty hilarious time overall.
I feel really lucky that I get to experience so much of Pittsburgh and that it's only my first year here...it definitely leaves me looking forward to the next three years to come :)
This weekend I am visiting none other than my very best friend, Colleen! I'm spending the weekend at Shippensburg University and I absolutely cannot wait.  I love this girl; she's been my best friend ever since kindergarten. I feel like not many people get to say that, and I'm so thankful for the friend that she has been to me for all these years :) I'm pretty sure that she's one of the only people who is able to put up with me in my most annoying times :P and she is also one of my only friends willing enough to let me lean on her during every single movie we have ever watched. No joke. I think it's safe to say that Colleen knows me better than almost anyone..and she still sticks around ;) I'm also looking forward to seeing my friend Chelsea there as well! And I cannot wait to introduce the two!!! Then I'll be spending one night at home and I cannot wait to see what crazy things Mike and I get into while I'm there :P
Chelsea is the girl next to me in the pink; we technically met my Freshman year in my US History class, but didn't really get to know one another until my Junior year when we both signed up for 3D art. We had that class for two years in a row together, the second year being a double period. Needless to say, we became really close friends and have ended up doing a lot together, including sleepovers, Starbucks runs, concerts, and even Senior Week. I'm really looking forward to another action-packed summer with her and of course this weekend to come!
So I'll be getting up superrrr early tomorrow in order to catch the 6:20am Megabus...so excited!!!
Have a good weekend everyone!

"The Kids Don't Stand A Chance..." -B.O.B

Okay! So now that these photos have FINALLY decided to upload, I can blog! I feel like there has to be a faster way to put pictures on the internet, but I guess I should think back to the days of dial up and be extreeeemely grateful for what we have now.  That being said, Saturday night the Pitt Program Council hosted a concert for all Undergraduate Students at the Ftizgerald Fieldhouse on Upper Campus. Who performed? B.o.b! He's been featured in some popular songs, like "Airplanes" and "Magic," but he also has his own album with his own songs which are pretty dang good! The tickets were only 5 bucks, the concert started at 8pm, and the doors opened at 7pm.
My group of friends and I figured that the line to get in would be pretty long, so we weren't in a huge hurry to get there and wait outside in line since it was pretttyyyyy cold outside.  We left Lower Campus around 6:30, reached the fieldhouse by 6:45 and, believe it or not, there was barely anyone in line! We waited in line together and had an awesome time, just talking like we normally do. Free Red Bull energy drinks were given out and a good time was had by all ;)
Kim and D, enjoying their free Red Bulls..
 D, Lauren, and Beth.
Caroline...breakin it down ;)
When the doors opened at 7, we all rushed in and literally got the front and center spot! Caroline was pushed up against the front railing and we were all right behind her. We were around a good group of people, so it wasn't that bad waiting the hour until the opening group came on. It was these two guys who rapped...honestly, their mic's weren't very loud so I didn't even catch their name, and well, we'll just say that they gave it their best effort, and leave it at that.
And then, after a much anticipated wait, B.o.b. came on stage! It.was.awesome.  I didn't even know all of the songs but he got everyone in the crowd so involved that everyone definitely had an awesome time.  I took a bunch of videos and Lauren took a tonnnn of pictures and we were SO close and it was just SO cool and I absolutely had an amazing time.
He sang a ton of good songs that everyone got so into and he even jumped into the crowd...right on top of where I was standing! So he literally crowdsurfed right on top of me...I won't lie, it was prettyyyy scary because everyone was just pushing to try and touch him and I almost fell over a couple of times! But definitely worth it! He got back on stage and continued to sing and perform and all that good stuff. Throughout his performance he would throw out drumsticks to people, and towards the end he threw out his jacket! Needless to say, it caused a bit of a riot. I am not even kidding. There was light this big fight that broke out over this jacket, and I'm pretty sure that he didn't even notice, cus he went right ahead and threw both of his shoes out into the crowd too! Crazy. That's all I have to say.
BUT!...it doesn't end there. I was lucky enough to get thrown his towel at the end of the show! Yeah, a sweaty towel...kinda gross, but nonetheless, very cool. I snatched it out of the air and hid it under my jacket and bolteddddd outta there! I mean, I wasn't trying to get into a brawl over a TOWEL! It was awesome. My friends and I made our way back to Holland, I grabbed some much-needed grub, and then took the time to look at all of these amazing pictures and videos. It was definitely a good night. I love the cool things and people that come to college campuses...we're so lucky.
soooooo close!!!
And what's next? Pitt hosts this big thing called Bigelow Bash, and on April 10 they close off Bigelow Blvd. for a ton of festivities. A school band who won our own version of "battle of the bands" opens up for a big name artist...and this year we get to see Ke$ha! You can bet I'm extremely pumped about this. My friends and I are planning on going allll out for this one! I can only hope that we get as lucky as we did for B.o.b...keep your fingers crossed!

I'll try and get some videos up for you all to see!

"I Think Everybody Should Like Everybody" -Andy Warhol

Soooo it's been FOREVER since I've blogged and well, basically just because I've been busy! I went home for Spring Break and had an awesome time with friends and family. It included lots of movie watching, some bowling, and even a Jersey Shore themed party with some friends.  It was really nice to be home with awesome weather and thinking about it just makes me wish for suuummmmmerrr!! One more month, can't wait!!!
But anyway, the first weekend back at school, some friends and I decided to celebrate St. Patrick's Day!
 Myself and Kevin
 Caroline and I
 Beth!
the girls: kim, amy, beth, maggie, caroline,
daniela, amy, and myself.
Friday night Ash, Steph, and Hunter arrived on the megabus to the Burgh! Ash and Hunter from Penn State and Steph from Harrisburg.  It was undoubtedly one of the best weekends I have ever had here at Pitt.  Saturday we spent just about three hours in Market Central just talking and laughing and of course eating (cus I feel like that's alllll my friends and I do when we're together!) and basically just having the best time ever.  Afterwards, we took turns pretending to be "Pitt Pathfinders" and gave our little group a tour of the campus. It was hilarious. I honestly think that the three of them are probably the three funniest friends that I have. We just have so many inside jokes and we all just laugh nonstop. And I'm talkin' belly achin' laughs...it just doesn't get any better than that :)
Pitt Pathfinder: Steph, and her "tour group"
We ran into Jimmy from CD!
 Best friends; sisters; love.
 Our new family.
We even went to Carnegie Mellon to visit Bennett!
Doing "The Bennett Pose"
 Love her.
We found these awesome benches that rolled around
and well, of course they entertained us. A lot.
Steph and Hunter reenacting harry Potter and Hermione!
Amazing friends<3
What else is even cooler? Probably the fact that they all get along so well with my friends from Pitt. We enjoyed much much pizza and many manyy laughs :)
Pitt Girls!
Caroline, Kimmy, Kim, Lauren, and Myself.

So once the weekend was over, I'll admit, life seemed pretty dull without my friends here anymore with me. But it was time to get back into School Mode. Soooo I spent most of the week doing homework and of course, going to class. Which I really can't complain about at all.  Daniela and I had an Astronomy Exam on Wednesday and right after that I scrambled to select housing for next year and THANKFULLY I got a room! I'll be living in Lothrop next year. On the same floor as Maggie, Alyssa, Caroline, and plenntyyyy of other girls that they know. I think it's gonna be pretty awesome. I'm excited to live with some new people and some old. And even to just be in a new area of campus.

Thursday night, instead of going to my Creative Writing class in the Cathedral, my teacher asked us all to attend the Black Nature Poetry Reading at the August Wilson Center, where she would be reading some samples of her poetry along with some other poets.
The entire class met up and we took the bus downtown and got there early enough to attend this sort of Slam Poetry event. It was pretty cool. Then we went upstairs to where our teacher would be reading and just sort of got to mingle. I talked to a few people from the class who I haven't really gotten to meet yet, and it was really fun. The event lasted from 7 until 9 and there was some aweesomee poems read. I thought it was really cool how, every week, our teacher sits in the classroom and listens to what we write and now, this one time, we were finally able to come support her and to listen to her read. She was so happy to have us all there. It was pretty special.

Afterwards, I went back to the dorm for the finale of Jersey Shore with the crew. I was a little disappointed with the finale, but still looking forward to the Reunion Show on Thursday. Yeah, a lot of people call it Trash TV...but there's just something about it that sucks me in, what can I say?
Everyone ended up leaving except Kim so she, D, and I sat up alllll night long (seriously, all night long...we didn't go to bed until 5am!!!) talking about the most random topics ever. Superpowers, wishes from a Genie, government and corruption, Poland, different times in history....everything. I couldn't name it all if I tried.  It was really fun though, just hanging out and talking so easily with two other people.

Needless to say, I most definitely slept in on Friday! I mean, who wouldn't? I grabbed some breakfast, err...lunch and hit the books. It feels like I have soooo much reading and writing to get done this weekend. I just gotta do one thing at a time. I did finish a memoir that I had to read for Creative Writing though, A Three Dog Summer, and I definitely recommend it. It might make you cry, but at the same time it'll still make you feel good at the end. But anyway, finished that!
Then, kind of spur of the moment, we decided to go to the Andy Warhol Museum. Oh.my.gosh. I LOVED it! I went with Kim, Caroline, Daniela, Christina, and Skye. We took the 500 downtown and found our way there pretty easily. It's a definite plus that Pitt Students get into the museums for free with our Student ID's...major plus. The museum was soooo cool. There was a lot of Pop Art of course and abstract stuff and print-making (which I have sooo much more respect for since listening to the whole process from Jim) and everything was just soooo bright! I really enjoyed myself. I felt bad because everyone was always waiting for me to be done with the exhibit but I was just so into it and wanted to read everything and know about it all! I definitely want to go back.
We made our way back to Oakland, grabbed some late-night snacks at Market, and now, here I sit...blogging away. Finally. I've missed it! So i hope that I have pleeennnttyyy more exciting things to write about..I'll keep you all posted!
